Walkthrough
This quest can be a small pain. There are 2 levels to the area and lots of hidden rooms. You need to head 2 east from Hobgoblin keep then north and 3 east. There you will meet Serran. When Serran asks you to help him say 'yes' and he will give you a special bag. You'll need this bag for the many items he wants you to find in the ruins. Here is the list items:
Incense moss, phosphorescent algae, a patch of mushrooms, dull copper ingot, shiny copper ingot (one from each level), gold ingot, a small ruby, a diamond ring, silver ingot, and a dull gold ring.
There is a key on a skeleton you will need (on the first floor) and an antman has the ruby (on the second floor). The monsters in the ruins are an easy kill and there is no armor here worth using.
